Announcements for 6/10-6/17

This week in the Friendship Registry - Sign up to help with Children’s
Sermons, VBS on July 15-19, and/or to help with the Block Party on June 16-17, 2007.



The Block Party needs your help! If you would like to help with any aspect of the block party on either Saturday, June 16th or Sunday, June 17th or both days, please sign up in the Narthex. We need people to help with set up and clean up, and to work registration and information booths. Also, please sign your teams up today for the fun events being played at the Block Party. Registration brochures are available in the Narthex.



FISH is in need of your help. You can donate canned foods by placing them in the grocery cart today. FISH also needs volunteers to accept phone calls, deliver food, or do both one day per month. Please call FISH at 548-2000 if you are interested.

Summer Lunch Program – This program to serve lunches to kids during the summer will begin on June 12th and run every Tuesday and Thursday through August 16th. See Pastor John, Ginny Bertram, or Carol Funderburg to help.



Volunteers needed for 5K Charity Run/Walk during the Block Party. Our church is hosting the 5K on Saturday, June 16th at the Block Party. If you would like to help at registration, sign up in the narthex, or talk to Pastor John.


The church has a part-time opening for a media position that will be responsible for editing tapes, recommending equipment, and troubleshooting. For a full job description please see the church office. This position will be for up to 8 hours/week.


Help Needed! The media needs two people to help run the video cameras on Sunday. It’s really not complicated and can be taught in one sitting. Anyone from the age of 13 up is eligible. You would be scheduled for only one Sunday a month. This is a very meaningful ministry that helps our own members who can’t get to church and who watch our church service on Wednesday nights. If interested, please call Karen Henninger at 548-8468.


The carnation on the communion table is in honor of the baptism of Cooper Mobley. Cooper is the son of Tammy and John Mobley.

Drivers needed! The Youth are attending the Dayton Dragons game on Friday, July 13th and are in need of transportation. If you are interested in driving, please see Chris Benek.



Needed... A couple videos are missing from the library. If you may have borrowed these videos please see Patti Jetter. The two videos are Making Your Marriage Work #4, and Parenting Your Teenager # 1 Identity by Parrott, (DVD).



You don’t have to go on the road to learn what an antique is worth! Find out on Tuesday, June 12 at 5:30 pm in the church social hall. The Tuesday Gals invite all Presbyterian Women to come to a Presby Antique Road Show. Join us for a light supper of quiche and fruit salad for $5.00. Reservations are required for this catered meal. Bring one (1) item only for appraisal by a local antique dealer. There is no charge for this service. Due to time constraints, however, this fun evening will be limited to the first 40 ladies making reservations. Call today to be assured of a spot and a meal! Cut off date is Sunday, June 10. Kirkmont Camp Applications are available in the Narthex. The Presbyterian church camp site is hosting many varied children’s camps this summer and scholarships are available for our members to attend at little cost. For more information on the scholarships please see Ginny Bertram or a
Christian Education Committee member.


Adult Intermediate Aerobics for 18 yrs. and older will run May 14-June 28 Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 pm at First Presbyterian Church. The class size is limited to 30 and the fee is $12. Please register at the Greenville Parks & Recreation Office. Marnelise van der Walt is the instructor.

Main Street Greenville Adopt a Box Program – downtown Greenville is adopting out flower boxes for $25 each. They will place a plaque at each box recognizing the donor. The community planting is May 19th from 8-11 am. If you are interested call Main Street Greenville at 548-4998.

Christopher Jetter is traveling to Guatemala to serve as the interim missionary for Mission Community. If you would like to sponsor Christopher in his Christian work, please see Chris Benek.


Fundraiser for the Block Party! Please place your order in the Narthex or church office to give your loved ones the spa treatment with a spa package compliments of MaryKay. See the bulletin board or Lauren Henry for more details.


Church Youth – Chris Benek is leading a team of airsoft players this summer. If you are interested in playing airsoft please let Chris know.


Dartball Players – If you would like to practice your dartball skills, please join your fellow church dartball players every other Monday evening at 7:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall. They will play again on Monday, May 14, 2007.


Summer Lunch Program – The Session, at its last meeting, passed a motion to provide lunches this summer to the East School children on the free or reduced lunch program. If you would like to help with this project please contact Ginny Bertram, Carol Funderburg, or Pastor John.


Volunteers Needed for St. R. Bucks Coffee – If you would like to prepare coffee in the Narthex for before Sunday School and Worship, please sign up in the Narthex. We need volunteers for all dates in May and June.


Cookies needed for 5K run during the Block Party. Our church is providing refreshments for the 5K participants on Saturday, June 16th at the Block Party. If you would like to donate cookies please call Susie Leland at 547-1718.

The Darke County March of Dimes is having their annual WalkAmerica on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the Darke County Fairgrounds. If you would like to donate to March of Dimes, which raises funds for research to help detect birth defects, and provide emotional/medical support to families with premature babies, please contact Lauren Henry at 548-3188 or 547-1282. Any donations can be made payable to March of Dimes.


The Deacons are asking for your help in making Easter a little happier for some Head Start children. We will be putting 40 Easter baskets together and are in need of socks & underwear. The First Presbyterian Church Scholarship is due May 1st and the Clark Scholarship is due April 15th. Also, College students are eligible to submit an application for the First Presbyterian Church Scholarship as well.

The conference is being held on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn, Ohio.

FISH is in need of your help. You can donate canned foods by placing them in the grocery cart the first Sunday of the month. FISH also needs volunteers to accept phone calls, deliver food, or do both one day per month. Please call FISH at 548-2000 if you are interested.

LOGOS NEWS: There will not be LOGOS this Wednesday. Instead please bring a dish and enjoy the carry-in meal to celebrate Fat Tuesday & Ash Wednesday. The Dan Craine Comedy show will be performing during the meal. There will also be special music performances. Don’t miss the fun!

Ash Wednesday is February 21st. There will be a carry-in dinner for the congregation at 5:30 p.m. and a Communion Service at 7 p.m.


Knitting & Sewing Groups! The Sewing Group will meet every 4th Monday at 9:30 a.m.; the knitting group will meet every 2nd and 4th Monday at 9:30 a.m.

Fun in Marriage is Serious Business, A Date Night for Couples The Miami Valley Marriage Coalition is proud to sponsor a dinner date for you and your spouse. Darke County Center of the Arts presents The Spencers, Theatre of Illusion on Saturday, February 24th at 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Hall. The Spencers use illusion as a source of healing and therapy. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children under 14. If interested please call DCCA at 547-0908.

Caregiver Education Series for Loved Ones with Dementia – The Alzheimer’s Association will be holding two workshops at the Versailles Health Care Center for Caregivers including Orientation to Dementia: Legal & Financial Issues on March 7, 2007 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Community Resources: Day-to-Day Caregiving, Caring for the Caregiver on March 14, 2007 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. If you are interested, call 800-272-3900 to register.

30-Hour Famine: Friday and Saturday February 23-24, our teenagers will experience what children around the world experience, hunger. Late Saturday afternoon, a meal will be given to our teenagers. If you would like to donate food for this event, please see Chris Benek.

Lenten Soup & Sermon Series will start on Ash Wednesday, February 21st and run every Wednesday until Easter. These begin at 12:05 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Pastor John will be preaching on March 28th.


The Darke County March of Dimes is having their annual WalkAmerica on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the Darke County Fairgrounds. If you would like to donate to March of Dimes, which raises funds for research to help detect birth defects, and provide emotional/medical support to families with premature babies, please contact Lauren Henry at 548-3188 or 547-1282. Any donations can be made payable to March of Dimes.
